Lobe's banana fields were on their last legs -the final crops were being harvested at Lipenja Division. It had been Dick Reger's first Division when he arrived from Kluang, and Joe Walton's final Division before his promotion to Manager. Lipenja's were the youngest and strongest of Lobe's bananas. All banana field maintenance had stopped; I was in charge of the final month's harvesting; of replanting the Division with oil palm, of surveying a 1000-acre of new jungle clearing and of extending Joe Walton's enormous field nursery. Ekundu Division, Lobe Oil Palms startup area had 50 acres of young mature seedgarden palm planted around the original split "carawood" management houses. Ekundu, merged with Kokoronge was managed by Malcolm Wheeler. He was replanting an area around Lobe's office.
