Modern digital plant and factory controls, and the systems that monitor and manage them, offer plant engineers a host of advantages. They operate more accurately, quickly, quietly and reliably - and make maintenance easier, more predictable and more productive. Fundamental to all these improvements are advances in technology that allow much more intelligence to be built into controls and sensors - at a reasonable cost, in some cases lower than traditional controls. This in turn gives much greater potential for control systems to effectively manage the information provided by these devices, communicated to them over factory networks. This delivers benefits in two main areas: operational improvements and maintenance.
