Scientists, trained to write in a sparseand unambiguous fashion, arenotoriously poor at presenting theimportance of their work to the tax-paying public and policy makers ingovernment. Conversely journalists, whose job it might be to interpret suchwork for the wider audience, are oftenaccused by scientists of misrepresentingor exaggerating their findings. Shouldsuch journalists have a training inscience? Should scientists undergo anobligatory course in mediacommunications? Is there someintermediate approach combiningreasonable rigour with something withwhich all can identify? What is the bestmedium of communication to publiciseone's findings: written word, radio, TV?
