President's Column

I am pleased to report that the Institutes' efforts to establish a training resource are continuing to progress. Eight presenters will be involved in the Training Day that follows this year's Conference and we have identified at least another six people who have expressed a willingness to be involved in future Training Projects. We are looking to build as large a pool of potential trainers as possible so that we can offer not only general basic level training programmes but also specialist training that focuses on specific applications and aspects of Refractory Technology. One aspect of our industry is that it is not dominated by complex materials technology; application technology is as important as the science behind the material themselves.
