Comment on: 'Atypical presentations of dengue disease in the elderly visiting the ED'

We compliment the investigators at the National Cheng Kung University Hospital, Tainan, in Taiwan for their comprehensive depiction of clinical characteristics of elderly and young adult patients with dengue virus (DENV) infection with an atypical clinical picture in the emergency department (ED) [1]. Their characterization of DENV infections by molecular analysis by real-time transcriptase polymerase chain reaction, serologic testing using captured immunoglobulin (IgM/IgG) enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and viral isolation by cell culture was idyllic, although facilities of such a comprehensive laboratory support to confirm that atypical DENV infections would be a privilege of ED affiliated to an academic or research hospital in Taiwan or elsewhere
