摘要

When the Soil Association launched the Food for Life campaign in 2003, the main aim was to get children eating healthy and sustainable school dinners. Since then the campaign has gone from strength to strength, and December saw Prince Charles presentthe first Food for Life Partnership (FFLP) awards for good food culture. Since the early days of the programme it has become clear that just serving healthy food isn't enough - it needs to be good for the planet as well as us. As Prince Charles himself put it in his speech: "The over-reliance on packaged, processed food is not just damaging our own health, but damaging our bio-diversity, our soil through agro-chemicals and our water-table through pesticides." To tackle these challenges, the Soil Association formed a partnership with three other charities to kick-start the transformation of England's food culture - from the roots up. And it's not just about school meals anymore, says Jeanette Orrey, the dinner lady who inspired the original campaign. "It's about practical food education like learning to cook, growing food and visiting farms."
