POSCO is planning to conduct the large-scale facility streamlining works on its hot strip mill and cold rolling mill from February through April, and accordingly, domestic market for the related steel products, which showed oversupply since the third quarter of 2005, is expected to get stabilized at the end of the first quarter of this year at the earliest. According to an official at POSCO, the Hot Strip Mill II of its Pohang Works will start a 55-day facility streamlining works March 2 with a schedule for completion by April 25 and consequently, POSCO's supply of hot-rolled coils (HR) is expected to drop by 700,000 tons during the period of facility streamlining works. POSCO Gwangyang Works' mini mill is under the repair works for 7 days from February 3 through 9. Accordingly, POSCO's supply of HR is expected to become tight, beginning with the orders to be placed in mid-February particularly in the case of HR with 5 feet in width and blast furnace products.
