Zhangjagang Pohang Stainless Steel to Go On-stream in Second Half of 2006

A stainless steel mill of Zhangjiagang Pohang Stainless Steel Co., a local subsidiary invested by POSCO in the area of Huadong, China, is currently under construction with a schedule to begin a test run of the facilities in June 2006 at the earliest for the full-scale start up of the mill in the second half of this year with an annual production capacity of 600,000 tons. POSCO Chairman Lee Ku-taek said January 12 at the POSCO CEO Forum for 2006 held at Yoido that the upper stream process of a new stainless steel mill of Zhangjiagang Pohang Stainless Steel will begin its operation in coming June mainly for the production of 400-series products rather than 300-series ones.
