STS Flat Product Sales Show Polarizationbetween Domestic Sales and Exports in June

Domestic sales of CR, HR and plates slumped, while exports of CR and HR surge 28 percent and 107 percent, respectively, from a year ago. Affected by economic slowdown, domestic sales of stainless flat products including cold-rolled steel sheets (CR) and hot-rolled coils (HR) slumped in June, hovering at the bottom line for the fourth consecutive month. According to the latest statistics from the Korea Iron & Steel Association on the monthly market trend of stainless steel products in June, sales of CR posted 74,762 tons last month, up 0.1 percent from the same month of 2003, thanks to brisk exports, discontinuing a downward trend in five months. But the sluggishness in domestic sales was found to be getting severer.
