GI Makers Suffer Deterioration of Profitability despite Increase in Sales

Hot-dipped galvanized steel sheets (GI) posted the highest rise among all the items of coated flat products in the accumulated sales from January through April this year. For the first four months of the year, aggregate sales of GI reached 1,142,202 tons with a year-on-year soar of 35 percent. Furthermore, if the sales record by SeAH Steel, which has not yet been officially released, is added thereto, the year-on-year increase rate of GI sales in the January-April period would have gotten to the level of about 38 percent. From January through April, exports stood at 357,669 tons, up 72.8 percent, or 150,688 tons, from a year ago, leading an increase in the overall sales of GI, and domestic sales marked 784,533 tons with a year-on-year surge of 22.7 percent, or 145,182 tons.
