Welding Consumable Sales Down 6.2 percent in May

Sales of domestic welding consumables excluding flux cored wire decreased in May compared with the same month of 2004, affected by a steep fall in the domestic market despite brisk exports. According to a recent survey on the local makers of wire rod products with regard to their monthly sales for May, they sold 13,200 tons of welding consumables in May, down 6.2 percent from the same month last year. Exports of welding consumables rose 6.7 percent from a year ago to 6,800 tons in May, but domestic sales plunged 17 percent to 6,300 tons, dragging down the entire monthly sales. Overseas sales of welding consumables increased for the fifth consecutive month in May on a year-on-year basis, while domestic sales, which had continued to be on the rise in March and April, took a downturn again in May.
