Steel Product Exports by General Trading Firms Slightly Increase in January-September

Steel product exports by domestic general trading companies (GTCs) increased slightly this year compared with a year ago. However, the increase pace, which was fast at the beginning of the year, has been getting slower. Until the third quarter of the year, the aggregate exports of steel products by six domestic GTCs posted 4,257,550 tons, up 1.4 percent from the same period last year. Taking a look at the trend of export growth that GTCs marked 13.2 percent until the first quarter and 11.2 percent until the second quarter, respectively, it is conspicuous that the increase pace of steel product exports has slowed down to a large extent. In the case of flat products in particular, export volume swelled 11.2 percent in the first quarter of the year compared with the same three-month period last year, but the growth pace until June dropped to 4.1 percent and then continued to be on the decrease, remaining almost same as it was a year ago in the aggregate exports until the third quarter.
