Both exports and imports of fasteners sharply increased in May compared with the same month of last year. Particularly in imports, the inbound shipments in Maywere surveyed to have posted more than a two-fold increase from May 2003 in terms of volume. The monthly exports of domestic fasteners in May stood at 6,112 tons, up 37.5 percent from 4,458 tons in the identical month of 2003, while the May imports of foreign fasteners skyrocketed 104.2 percent to 4,271 tons compared with 2,092 tons in the corresponding month of last year, thus extending a year-on-year jump of over 100 percent for three consecutive months from March.
