POSCO's Wire Rod Rolling Dept. has developed a technology for minimizing the surface decarburization of automotive spring steel. With the application of the 6-Sigma technique, it has dropped to zero the rate of defects caused by ferrite decarburization through the innovation of production technology and realized the quality improvement which enables spring steel to be produced by high-frequency heating without getting through the process of shearing the surface, POSCO said. The technology developed this time is used for eliminating the ferrite decarburization of automotive spring steel and ensuring that no defect will occur when products are rolled out through cold forming.
