Coupled with a rise in raw materials cost, excess facilities are exerting a bad influence on profitability. Most domestic makers of high carbon steel wire rod products were found to have excessively large production facilities, which are working a stumbling block after all against an increase in product prices. The combined annual production capacity of such typical items of domestic high carbon steel wire rod products as wire ropes, hard drawn steel wires, steel wires for pre-stressed concrete and galvanized steel wires is about 608,000 tons, according to a recent industry report.
