A surge in price of steel scarp at home and abroad made special steel bar makers move for the price hike of their products. However, the response from related market is unexpectedly dull. Industry sources said cloudy business prospects did not move customers' buying interest despite being in an atmosphere to raise the prices. Special steel bar makers began to work on their new pricing for price hikes at the beginning of February as soon as they saw an apparent cost-increasing factor in the international market where import prices of steel scrap surged to the highest level, threatening the level of 180 U.S. dollars per ton, ever seen since 1995.
