摘要

Evidence has established and quantified associations between body-mass index (BMI) and risk of increased cancer incidence and mortality for several cancer types. However, most studies were of North American and European populations and might not be generalisable to other major populations, such as those from Asia-Pacific. In this issue of The Lancet Oncology, Parr and colleagues5 address this question in a pooled analysis of 39 cohorts (almost half a million participants; 77% Asians) within the Asia-Pacific Cohort Studies Collaboration, and investigated associations between BMI and cancer mortality. The investigators report that the excess risk of all-cause cancer mortality in obese individuals (BMI >=30 kg/m~2) is 21% higher than that for normal-weight individuals (18-5-24-9 kg/m~2).
