We read with great interest Laura Rodrigues and Diana Lockwood's Review of leprosy around the world. The Review included information about the epidemiology, transmission, clinical features, treatment, diagnosis, and prevention of leprosy, and will be very helpful for future studies and control of the disease. However, we wonder why the authors included so little information about leprosy in China.China accounts for about a quarter of the world's population, and leprosy was one of the country's most serious infectious diseases before the 1950s. In the past 60 years, about 500 000 cases of leprosy were diagnosed and cured.
