An unusual cause of cerebral cardioembolism in a 33-year-old man due to ventricular noncompaction.

To the Editor:Sahin et al reported an unusual case of cerebral cardioembolism in a 33-year-old man due to ventricular noncompaction. The diagnostic definition of the disease required magnetic resonance imaging.With regard to the incidence of stroke in these patients the authors write: "Although these intertrabecular recesses are prone to thrombus formation, with resulting embolic sequelae, the literature describes only 1 case of a stroke in an adult, caused by noncompaction."In the literature, just 3 isolated cases of thrombus formation in patients affected by noncompaction were reported, and in our opinion, this is due to the very low incidence of thromboembolic events in these patients.
