Popular Perception Community roles for media and medicine

This year, first lady Michelle Obama brought new attention to one of America's biggest problems: obesity. In light of this new campaign and my pending graduation from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, I could not help but notice the trend of overweight and obese Americans in my own community. As a future physician who is committed to helping improve the lives of my fellow citizens, I cannot help but think about tackling one of America's most significant health problems. And as an African-American from a family that has obesity problems, I have become increasingly sensitive to the issue. Obesity is quickly becoming America's most prominent problem. Out of all the Americans being affected by the obesity issue, the hardest hit population is African-American women.
