Approach to the Patient with a Suspected Cutaneous Adverse Drug Reaction

Cutaneous adverse drug reactions are common. They can present in a variety of forms with a broad spectrum of severity, morbidity, and mortality. It is crucial that the clinician be able to recognize signs and symptoms that suggest a more severe or complicated reaction so that appropriate workup and treatment are initiated. This article provides a systematic approach to evaluating a patient with a suspected cutaneous adverse drug reaction. It also details the characteristics, work-up, and treatment of the common types of cutaneous adverse drug reactions.
