摘要

In addition, despite a multi-million dollar effort led by the American Medical Association to defeat all legislation and regulatory changes concerning "nonphysician expansion of scope," nursing organizations continued to push ahead, successfully documenting patient safety and quality of care through local, regional, and national research. One such research article published in 2006 by Laurent et alL, represented a meta-analysis of 16 studies that compared primary care nurses and physicians. This meta-analysis confirmed the documentation that NPs demonstrate high quality, safe patient care, and health outcomes and resource utilization equivalent to physicians. It also indicated that NPs continue to excel in patient satisfaction scores. Consumers, legislators, and regulators understand the level of care provided by APRNs and in 2007 moved to prevent legislation that would have created additional barriers to practice and access in 12 states.
