Rio Tinto to resume Argyle expansion

In 2010 Rio Tinto (RTP-N) will resume a 1.5-billion dollars expansion of its Argyle diamond mine in Australia, as global demand for jewelry continues to gain momentum. Underground production at Argyle, which accounts for about 20 percent of global output, is slated to begin in 2013, two years later than originally planned. The mine processes 8 million tonnes per year, at full capacity.
