Effect of alcoholic extract of rhizome of turmeric (Curcuma longa) has been tested for its antimicrobial activity against bacterial strain of Escherichia coli. The zone of inhibition produced by undiluted aqueous extract and alcoholic extract was nearly as large as some of the antibiotics, out of the 12 antibiotics used for comparison.
