In vitro propagation of Hardwickia binata Roxb.

Hardwickia binata Roxb., an endemic taxon to India is an excellent source of hard, durable timber. An optimal in vitro propagation procedure was achieved using mesocotyls, shoot tips and axillary buds as source of explants. A total number of 112 shoots per seedling can be obtained within 3 cycles of 30 days duration each. The proliferated shoots readily rooted in vitro on Murashige and Skoog's (MS) medium supplemented with 4mg/l indole-3 butyric acid (IBA). The rooted plantlets were successfully transferred to soil.
