In the present studies, an attempt has been made to establish a correlation between proline accumulation and osmotic adjustment. Proline accumulation is not always associated with the osmotic potential. The maximum amount of proline accumulation wasrecorded during winter (November-January) when the OP values were most negative, whereas minimum proline occurred during June-September. Thus, the effect of cold stress is more pronounced than water and/or temperature stresses.
