Forensic genetic data on the Y-STR markers of DYS437, DYS439 and DYS460 in the Korean population

We analyzed three STRs, DYS437, DYS439 and DYS460, on the Y chromosome in a sample from 208 unrelated individuals in the Korean population. Haplotype and allele frequencies were determined using a novel triplex PCR amplification method, followed bydenaturing polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis with allelic ladders. A total of 26 different haplotypes were observed, of which 6 (23.08 percent) were found only once. Gene diversity values were 0.4755, 0.6459 and 0.6490 for the DYS437, DYS439 and DYS460markers, respectively. When combining these three Y-STR markers with the previously published our basic set of ten Y-STRs (DYS19, DYS388, DYS388, DYS389I/H, DYS390, DYS391, DYS392, DYS393 and DXYS156Y) it reflected to be a highly informative forensic parameter that allowed the overall haplotype diversity of 0.9998 and the discrimination capacity of 98.47 percent (193/196) of the samples tested. A set of thirteen Y-STRs, thus, represent a very powerful tool for forensic analysis and paternity tests and can also be of great benefit of providing information not normally available from autosomal DNA system.
