How many steps does it take to put on a condom?--A commentary.

Male condoms are effective in preventing most sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Moreover, condom use yields a 98% theoretical effectiveness rate for pregnancy prevention; however, more typical use is just 85% effective in preventing pregnancy. Can we improve the effectiveness with which condoms are used, and if so, then how? Every year, approximately 19 million new cases of STIs occur, and the rate of STIs among youth continues to grow. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about half of new STI cases occur in youth 15 to 24 years old. Among youth, new chlamydia cases have increased by over 6% in the past 2 years, and new gonorrhea cases have increased by approximately 1% during this same time frame.
