Spermatocytic seminoma (SS) is a distinctive testicular germ cell neoplasm. The derivation of its name stems from the morphological resemblance of some of the component tumor cells to those observed in normal spercnato-genesis.1 The cell of origin has not been precisely identified. While studies suggest that this tumor is derived from germ cells, it is now generally believed to originate from a different germ cell, possibly a more mature germ cell, than those that give rise to classic seminoma and other germ cell tumors. Consequently it has many characteristics that are distinctly different from those of the usual testicular germ cell tumors.
