Endometrial cancer is the most common malignancy ofthe female genital tract in the USA, with an estimatednumber of 47 130 new cases in 2012.1 The annualnumber of deaths has increased from 6000 in 19972 to8010 in 2012.1 Approximately 17% of patients withendometrial cancer eventually relapse and die of thisdisease.1 From this viewpoint, improvements areneeded in the treatment for endometrial cancer, especiallypatients at high risk of a poor prognosis. On theother hand, the International Federation of Gynecologyand Obstetrics (FIGO) annual report demonstrated thatthe survival rates of endometrial cancer have continuedto increase during recent decades.3
