Question For patients with uncomplicated skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs) caused predominantly by community-associated (CA) methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSAX is clindamycin more effect than cephalexin in treating these infections? Design Randomized, double-blind, controlled trial. Setting Johns Hopkins Emergency Department or Outpatient Clinics, Baltimore, Maryland. Participants Patients aged 6 months to 18 years with uncomplicated SSTIs not requiring hospitalization were enrolled September 2006 through May 2009. Intervention Patients received a 7 day course of either cephalexin (40mg/kg/d divided equally three times a day) or clindamycin (20mg/kg/d divided equally three times a day). Outcomes Clinical improvement at 48 to 72 hours and resolution at 7 days.
