摘要

Iwas given a copy of The Crevice Garden and its Plants for Christmas. It's a most useful book, with lots of advice about building a crevice garden and its suitable plants. I should have bought a copy years ago.Particularly helpful are Zdenek Zvolaneks notes on plants which, once established, will survive sun-baking in crevices without watering. So I have transformed part of my rock garden into a crevice bed. The area I chose is roughly U-shaped, 2m by 1.5m, and is bounded by rocks which raise the bed about 25cm above ground level at the south-facing curve and 15cm higher across the top. The drop was controlled by slabs set in gentle arcs across the bed, but widely spaced with a deep layer of limestone chippings in the gaps.
