Declining Trend of Lymphatic Filariasis from Rural Areas of Koraput District of Odisha State

Lymphatic filariasis is one of the neglected tropical diseases (NTD) worlds over. India contributes around 39 per cent of the global burden of lymphatic filariasis. National Health Policy (2002) set the target for elimination of lymphatic filariasis in the country by 2015. Accordingly, Directorate of National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) has identified 251 districts to be covered under mass drug administration (MDA). Odisha State, in eastern part of India has long been known to be endemic for lymphatic filariasis.
