Mrs. Smith was an elderly patient suffering from depression and breast cancer. She saw a family physician, an internist, and a psychiatrist for treatment. Her family physician treated her for a clotting disorder she acquired while taking Prempro~R, together with an aspirin a day, to decrease the incidence of a thrombotic episode that could result in significant deleterious consequences for her, as well as a preventative measure against cardiac disease. The family physician was also concerned about her ongoing depression, so Mrs. Smith was prescribed Prozac~R. An internist also saw Mrs. Smith, on recommendation of her oncologist for her breast cancer. Recognizing her history of breast cancer and a thrombotic disorder, her internist placed Mrs. Smith on Coumadin~R, an anticoagulant, for her clotting disorder.
