Termination of a commercial agency: the agent's rights

The Directive on Commercial Agents aimed to provide some degree of protection for commercial agents in their dealings with principals by regulating various aspects of the commercial agency relationship, including notice periods, the respective duties of the parties and arrangements for the payment of commission. The Directive was implemented in English law by the Commercial Agents (Council Directive) Regulations 1993, in effect from January 1, 1994.
