Psychometric assessment of the neurobehavioral symptom inventory-22: The structure of persistent postconcussive symptoms following deployment-related mild traumatic brain injury among veterans

MILD TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY (mTBI), also known as concussion, has been labeled as the "signature injury" of Operations Enduring Freedom/Iraqi Freedom (OEF/OIF). The persistent effects of concussion are a focus of both research and rehabilitation interventions, not only within the Veterans Health Administration (VA), but in the general medical community.1-2 Psychometric studies of the structure and composition of these postconcussive symptoms have generated several questions: Is there a postconcussive syndrome (PCS)? If so, is there a single, denning syndrome, or several syndromes, and what symptom patterns distinguish among them?
