HHS adopts new funds transfer process to cut provider, government costs

THE FEDERAL government is adopting new standards for health care administrative transactions that it says will streamline processes and reduce costs by as much as dollar4.5 billion for providers and government health plans. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released an interim final rule with comment period outlining how the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will enact standards for the Health Care Electronic Funds Transfers (EFT) and Remittance Advice transactions under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
