摘要

Brave New World, Aldous Huxley's 1932 novel, isn't about astronomy. It's about the future, and the future is dark. Referencing Miranda's famous line in The Tempest, Huxley borrows Shakespeare's ironic invocation of the "godly crea- tures" and "beauteous mankind" in this "brave new world." In a foreword Huxley wrote for the 1946 edition of his tale of pernicious utopia leveraged by technology and science, he explained, "The theme of Brave New World is not the advancement of science as such; it is the advancement of science as it affects individuals."
