MEPS change for refrigerators

AS/NZS 4474.1:1997 Performance of household electrical appliances -Refrigerating appliances Part 1: Energy consumption and performance and AS/NZS 4474.2:2001 Performance of household electrical appliances -Refrigerating appliances Part 2: Energy labelling and minimum energy performance standard requirements, (MEPS), were amended in 2001 to allow for the introduction of requirements for MEPS 2004. The new MEPS 2004 levels were developed and agreed by industry and government representatives during 2000 and were to replace the existing MEPS 1999 requirements from 1 October 2004. Regulatory authorities have agreed that changes to the MEPS requirements will now not apply in Australia until 1 January 2005. in New Zealand, the introductory date for the new MEPS requirements may be different, and will be addressed by further amendments to the Standards and subsequent New Zealand Governemtn Gazette notice. Subcommittee EL-015-23 has agreed to amend the Standards to reflect the new application date(s), and consequently, the current references to MEPS 2004 will be replaced throughout the Standards with MEPS 2005.
