Patronage of the arts is an age-old practice, arising from the perceived divergence between two very different worlds. On the one hand, there's art. And on the other, there's commerce ... and seldom - if ever - shall the twain meet. Or shall they? Increasingly, major entertainment, public assembly and performing arts venues in Australia are finding the common ground between art and commerce, applying business management principles to operations that may, in the past, have been considered commercially non-viable - or, arguably, run on commercially non-viable terms.
