Security in health care

The health care industry is faced with the challenge of reducing costs by moving from paper-based processes to electronic processes. Increasingly patient information needs to be shared among numerous specialist health care providers. The challenge is to do this accurately, securely whilst maintaining privacy. Information concerning individuals is already readily interchanged by means of electronic mail over the Internet and while this provides a cost effective and accessible means of interchanging information for health data, it raises issues of privacy and confidentiality. It is essential to have reliable information security services available to the health care system that minimise the risk of unauthorised access.
