摘要

Surface finish is one of the most commonly used criteria to evaluate the machinability degree of metallic materials. However, surface quality evaluation requires the application of off-line measurement techniques, which involve time-outs in the production system. Thereby, it would be highly desirable to design experimental devices that allow monitoring on-line of the surface finish of the machined parts. In this work, a potential relation between surface roughness and the tangential component of the cutting force has been established for the dry turning process of UNS A92024 alloy. From this relation, the surface quality of the turned aluminium parts can be monitored through the cutting force values recorded on-line during the machining process.
