Non-genetic factors influencing reproductive performance traits in Sahiwal cattle

The effect of non-genetic factors on the reproductive performance of Sahiwal cattle was determined based on records of 272 cattle in Karnal, Haryana, India, from 1977-2003. It was shown that average age at first calving (AFC), first dry period (FDP), first service period (FSP) and first calving interval (FCI) were 1098.23+or-7.74, 126.25+or-7.77, 143.32+or-8.21 and 430.29+or-8.24 days, respectively. Calving season did not significantly affect these parameters, while period of calving had a significant affect.
