A CASE OF STERNOPHAGUS BUFFALO FOETUSES

Congenital anamolies such as duplication of head, neck and extremities of foetuses cause difficulty in parturition in Bovines. Roberts (1971) has reported duplication of cranial as well as caudal parts of foetuses. He opined that duplication was due to incomplete separation of blastomeres from single fertilized egg. In the present study a five years old she buffalo was brought to the college clinic with the history of difficulty in parturition. It had earlierthree normal calvings. Temperature, pulseand respiratory rates were slightly elevated as there was severe straining and restlessness. Pervaginal examination revealed fourforelimbs and two heads suggestive of two foetuses. After applying lubricant and sufficient traction the foetuses was pulledout. The twin foetuses were found dead.
