Etiology of mycotic dermatitis in dogs.

Dogs presented to the small animal out-patient unit of the Madras Veterinary College, Chennai were examined for fungal infection. Out of 756 dermatological cases, 155 dogs were found positive for fungal infection. Wood's lamp and culture examination ruled out Microsporum canis, M. audounii and M. distortum. Out of 36 cases chosen for the present study, Aspergillus fumigatus (41.67%) was the most common non-dermatophytes isolated, while M. gypseum (30.55%) and Trichophyton mentegrophytes (16.67%) were the most common dermatophytes isolated. The remaining 11.11% were unidentified yeasts and moulds.
