PHYSIOLOGICAL AND CLINICAL EFFECTS OF ELECTROACUPUNCTURE ANAESTHESIA OF LIMBS IN GOATS

Electroacupuncture stimulation of acupoints LU-10, LI-11, HC-6, TH-8, GV-20 and Tianping produced a better and complete analgesia of the areaincluding shoulder girdle, humerus, elbow joint, radius and ulna and metacarpal regions. Complete anaesthesiaof hip joint, thigh, femur, lateral aspect of thigh including gluteal region and stifle joint alongwith tibia and fibula was seen after stimulation of acupoints BL-60, SP-4, GB-40, LI-4, GV-20 and Tianping. The onset of anaesthesia varied from 17.50 ± 0.28 to 22.20 ± 0.55 minutes, complete recovery occurred in, 10.75 ± 0.32 to 13.60 ± 0.54 minutes after discontinuation of stimulation. The anaesthesia lasted as long as stimulation was given. A significant increase (P<0.05) in heart rate, non-significant (P>0.05) increase in respiration rate, rectal temperature, mean arterial pressure with no significant effect on central venous pressure, ECG and acid-base status were seen after electroacupuncture.
