A comparative appraisal of blood and seminal biochemical, enzymatic and macromicro minerals profiles, and the significance of blood status to seminal secretion of these elements in breeding bulls of Gir cattle and Jafarabadi buffaloes was investigated. The results clearly depicted species specificity of blood and seminal biochemistry. Buffalo semen had significantly lower proteins, cholesterol, GPT and higher GOT, phosphatases, phosphorus, zinc, iron and copper as compared to ox semen, although their blood status for most constituents was nearly the same. These findings could explain the unique secretory activity of their accessory sex glands and the overall poor quality and freezability of buffalo semen.
