Effect of oral and parenteral administration of iron on growth rates, blood iron and copper levels in unweaned piglets.

18 crossbred piglets (Hampshire and Assam Local), were divided into 3 groups (T1, T2, and T3) with 6 piglets in each group. All the piglets were allowed to suckle mother's milk ad libitum regularly from birth and creep feed was provided from the 14th day up to weaning age [India; date not given]. Each piglet in T1 were injected with 2 ml Inferon on the 4th and 14th day. Each piglet in T2 group were orally fed an iron preparation (ferrous sulphate) 1.8% syrup at the rate of 4 ml for 7 days. Pigletsin T3 group were not fed any extra iron supplement. The body weight of T3 group (6.67?.039 kg) was significantly lower than other groups. The level of blood iron in T1, T2, and T3 were 250.65?.50, 240.40?.76 and 84.37?.32 鎔/100 ml, respectively. With respect to copper level, there was no significant difference among the groups.
