Surgical Management of Chronic Corneal Epithelial Defect Using Collagen OcularShield in a Cow

A five year old cross bred Jersey pregnant cow with a history of mucopurulent ocular discharge and an abnormal growth in the right eye was presented to the TVCC, Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Veterinary Education and Research, Puducherry. The clinical features were suggestive of a chronic corneal epithelial defect with secondary granulation tissue formation. The mass was trimmed and the anterior stroma was debrided under regional and topical analgesia of cornea. A sterile collagen corneal shield was placed on the debrided area and the cornea was protected covering with nictitating membraneand temporary tarsorrhaphy. The defect healed uneventfully.
