The intestinal immune response to Newcastle disease 'F' strain (NDF) administered through intranasal route in the presence of mucosal adjuvants (cholera toxin B subunit i.e. CTB, heat labile enterotoxin of Escherichia coli i.e. LT and avridine) was evaluated. It was found that the birds receiving LT incorporated vaccine showed higher lymphoproliferative responses to the NDV antigen when compared to the birds that received vaccine alone. The birds inoculated with LT adjuvanted vaccine also showed higher non-specific cytotoxic activity. The adjuvants did not influence the antiviral intestinal antibody levels. The study confirmed the immunoadjuvanting activity of heat labile enterotoxin of Escherichia coli in poultry.
